The BGV Mural Is Officially Live: Created By Muralist B MIKE Join The Party

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

The BGV mural project has officially been completed! Titled “Entrepreneurship is a Boxing Match,” B MIKE, a global celebrity muralist with a gift for creating enormous and powerful murals, demonstrated his skills by using bold strokes of bright colors—representing a powerful statement in the D.C. community. Behind the vibrant mural is a group of Black and Brown business owners and entrepreneurs. We celebrate their contributions to their communities.

To honor this pivotal mark in history, the Black Girl Ventures Foundation (BGV) and the Edens DC invite you to a double event on Friday, May 13th, for a Drive-in Movie double premier of BGVs short film “Entrepreneurship is a Boxing Match” & “Space Jam” and on Saturday, May 14th for the BGV Block Party.

“Entrepreneurship is a Boxing Match” is a BGV short film about the story of the mural and poem written by our CEO Shelly Omilade Bell. It also features a behind-the-scenes photoshoot with the mural. This will be a full-on drive-in-styled movie hosted by Edens DC. So bring your car, blankets, and chairs to watch. This event is free, but if you plan to watch from your car, its a $20 fee for a parking space. Purchase a spot so you can get the best view.

With the support of Nike, BGV is introducing public art to elevate and highlight Black and Brown women business founders across the country. This is the second mural. The first one is located in the Menkiti Group building in NE DC. The Block Party will have local BGV alum vendors, DJ Iceyy I spinning, networking opportunities, and catering by Suburbia at Union Market.

BGV funds and scales tech-enabled, revenue-generating businesses (under $1M) founded by people who identify as Black/Brown and women. We ignite civic engagement and hyperlocal infrastructure at the intersection of business support services, supplier diversity, and social and financial capital. We provide Black and Brown woman-identifying founders with access to community, capital, and capacity building to meet business milestones that lead to economic advancement through entrepreneurship.
