She started Black Girl Ventures in 2016 in a house in Southeast DC with about 30 women. They came together, decided to put money in a hat, and hold a pitch competition. Four women pitched, the audience asked questions, and they voted with marbles and coffee mugs. If they liked a pitch, they put their marble in the corresponding coffee mug. She believed that if women do not have access to capital, we can collectively do something about it.
